Holy Rood House Centre for Health and Pastoral Care

Here is a special place for all kinds of people of all ages, for many different reasons within a gentle Christian ethos offering counselling, psychotherapy and a holisitic approach to well-being. Reflection, exploration and discovery working towards justice, peace and ecological awareness. An excellent reputation for home cooking, all diets can be accommodated, and a policy that no-one should ever feel unable to stay because of cost.

Also home to The Centre for the Study of Theology and Health. Research, conference and training. Contemporary and Therapeutic and Theological Library. Reading Retreats with GBP 60.00 bursary through The Raymond Foundation. Projects: ‘Hymns for Healing’ and ‘face2face’ combating sexual abuse within and on behalf of the churches.

Open: 

All year, occasional exceptions. All ages and backgrounds welcome.

Accommodation: 

13 singles (3 en-suite) all have own hand-basin. Showers and baths on both floors. 1 double on top floor. 4 twins (3 en-suite).

Facilities: 

Chapel and garden chapel, creative gardens with smallholding, libraries, guest lounges, TV. Children and well behaved dogs welcome. Art therapy; professional counselling and psychotherapy; drama therapy; creative writing and complimentary therapies; relaxation and stress management.

Disabled access: 

Holy Rood House is wheelchair friendly and there are ramps to gain access to the ground floor and a chair lift to first floor.

Spiritual help: 

Ministry of healing, personal retreat, spiritual direction, daily prayer life; meditation, creative liturgies. Theology courses and women’s spirituality courses.

Meals: 

Everyone eats together. Good wholesome cooking. Vegetarians, special diets.

Special activities: 

Planned programme of events and courses. Send for brochure. Xmas and New Year House Parties and occasional self-catering holidays and annual events.

Situation: 

Quiet village location; close to Thirsk Market Town Centre, public swimming pool, cinema and river walks.

Suggested donations: GBP 54.00 for 24 hours GBP 59.00 en-suite - includes creative arts and relaxation groups. One to one therapies, counselling, spiritual accompaniment suggested donations on a sliding scale. Group costs negotiated.

Access: 

Good train and coach connection. Train to Thirsk 1½ miles away. Bus to Thirsk, then ten minute walk. Car via A61 to B1448, or A19 and A168.
