Buddhist (Theravada Tradition)

The Samatha Centre is a large farmhouse set in 88 acres of land, with a rebuilt barn containing shrine rooms and a library. The setting is lovely, with views in all directions of green pastures and rising hills. There are streams and woods with secluded places where huts have been built for those who want to meditate in solitude. The courses teach a traditional Thai form of meditation on the breath as the central practice, but other techniques such as walking meditation and metta (friendliness) practice are taught as appropriate. There are regular courses for the more experienced and some for beginners.

Open: During organised weekends and weeks. Receives men, women and young people.

Rooms: 8 single rooms in the farmhouse plus up to 4 in huts. No alcohol.

Facilities: Library, guest telephone. Wheelchair access to the farmhouse, main shrine hall and library, but only limited access to the land - it's hilly.

Spiritual Help: Group and individual instruction on Samatha meditation.
There is always an experienced teacher to discuss your own practice with, and this is an important aspect of the courses.

Guests Admitted to: Unrestricted access everywhere.

Meals: Everyone eats together. Traditional whole food. Provision for vegetarians, and special diets within reason.

Situation: Mid-Wales not far from the English border. The nearest town is Knighton.
