Ecumenical
In founding the Taizé Community, the late Brother Rogers opened ways to heal the divisions between Christians and through reconciliation of Christians to overcome certain conflicts in humanity. In his own words he felt that the Church can be a leaven of community and peace in the entire family. Today the Community includes some 80 brothers, both Protestant and Catholic, from over twenty countries. This is one of the most popular retreat places in the Western world - in some years there may be over 6000 visitors in a single week. Taizé receives men, women and especially young people for whom it is a very popular place. 30 rooms plus dormitories, camping, and caravans. While all activities take place in Taizé itself, most adult accommodation is in villages nearby. Accepts disabled and families with children. Personal talks, meditation, and group discussions. There are special meetings for different age groups - for example, special activities for younger people and other events for the over-60’s. Everyone eats together and the food is very simple. No provisions for vegetarians or special diets. Send for information, which lists the various meetings and gives important details, which you need to know before deciding to go there. You must write at least two months before your intended stay and wait for a reply before making any firm arrangements. It is so crowded in summer that older people are advised to come before or after that period. In spite of all these crowds and popularity, Taizé remains a place where you may find inner peace and the joy.
