"As the song says, Highly Recommended" The Good Retreat Guide Roman Catholic The House of Prayer sits at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains looking out over the valley of the River Suir. This splendid 19th century house has new and attractive rooms, tastefully decorated like a small, elegant country hotel with pretty wallpaper and curtains. The bathrooms are sparkling clean and generously equipped. The community went for professional advice on the decorating and it is a great success. With such outstanding attention to comfort and detail - even down to writing stationary in the desks - plus central heating, large dining room, library, church, hall, spacious gardens, ornamental ponds and streams, Rosminian House must be one of the best retreat houses in Europe. For exercise, there are a variety of forest walks, countryside rambles and mountain hills, all easily available. In addition to the main house, there is Glen Lodge, a separate modern and well-furnished self-catering house that is ideal for private retreats, groups and workshops, and there is now the development of hermitages ( see below). The small community here gives everyone a big welcome. It is a place where you feel immediately at home and relaxing and ' letting go' does not take long. There is a daily Mass with a Taize Mass on the last Saturday of each month and both a Medjugorje evening as well as a Maranatha Rosary group each week. This neat-as-a-pin place is just the base for a spirituality and retreat programme that combines deep religious traditions and retreats with new thinking-for example, the Eucharist may be celebrated outdoors by a waterfall in the hills and there are Creation Retreats using animals such as horses, and riding. As to the food, it is honest and plain with homemade pies and other good dishes. Open: All year except four days at Christmas. Receives: men, women, groups and religious. Glencomeragh Hermitages
Four Hermitages or Poustiniae have just opened at Glencomeragh. These are set in prime locations taking full advantage of the local environment. The buildings can be booked for single, double or twin accommodation and details of costs etc are available on the Rosminian website or from the secretary.
