Mind-Body-Spirit (Shamanism, North American Indian Spirituality)
Our ancient human roots are shamanism and whatever our culture we share in this spiritual heritage. All of us come from shamanism cultures because humans have always sought understanding and knowledge of the wider universe using a variety of experiential ways and tools. These practices are still in use in a surprisingly large number of places in the world and many shamans of indigenous cultures are now teaching Westerners. The shamanism journey, the trance-dance, the vision quest, and the purifying ceremony of the sweat lodge, are ancient but often still relevant ways to contact the timeless reality that exists invisible at first to our eyes and senses. Hidden that is until we open the doors until we begin to see with an expanded vision that shamanism often and anciently brings. Eagle’s Wing is a well-established and widely respected central resource for information and courses on shamanism. Leo Rutherford, a leading and serious practitioner of this spiritual way for many years, who runs the Centre, is well known and respected in his work. Chanting, drumming, dancing, instruction in the use of the medicine wheel, ceremony and celebration are all part of the Centre's teaching. While there is no residential accommodation at the Centre, there are a number of interesting day courses and workshops, which explore these rich and ancient traditions of spirituality. These are held at various venues around the country with some abroad in Greece. Examples of what is on offer include Shaman Dance, Sweat Lodge, Dance & Ceremony Weekend, Shaman Wisdom, Shaman Healing & Soul Retrieval, trance-dance training group. An example of a retreat may be like this one on Shamanism Divination with Howard G. Charing (Tel: 01273 882027). It is a residential workshop weekend in which there is an introduction into the ways and means of divination. Divination is not “fortune telling”, it is a way to a deeper understanding of events, influences, and circumstances surrounding a situation or person.
